During her time as a violin teacher, she was introduced to pupils who had learned violin using the Suzuki Method. By seeing excellent musicians playing with a fine tone, Helen made a decision to leave classroom teaching and pursue studies at the British Suzuki Institute in London. She achieved ESA Diploma Level 5 Graduate Suzuki Teacher status in 2017 and Level 2 viola in 2023.
Helen runs a successful Suzuki teaching studio and runs the Kentish Suzuki Group, collaborating with local teachers performing in concerts and events. The group have performed at the Royal Festival Hall,The Royal Albert Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Trafalgar Square with the British Suzuki Institute. Students have gained places in the National Children’s Orchestra (NCO) as well as local Bromley Youth Music Orchestras (BYMT).
Numerous students have gained music scholarships to local independent schools and received junior conservatoire places at Junior Trinity Laban and Junior Royal College of Music in London. Students have also won numerous prizes and awards at the Bromley Festival, Sevenoaks Festival and Tunbridge Wells Festival.
Grade Examinations and Suzuki Graduations
These are all UK Government Ofqual approved examination boards, meaning each exam provider have satisfied requirements to prove that their syllabus is reliable, trustworthy and reliable.
ABRSM Grade Examinations and Diplomas have exactly the same RQF (Regulated Qualification Framework) as Trinity College London and MTB and these providers should be viewed as such.
One board is not easier than another, they just have different assessment requirements.
Students who are Suzuki-trained will be (heavily) encouraged to pursue their Suzuki repertoire and graduate each book with the British Suzuki Music Association. Suzuki courses, playtogethers and events will also be encouraged. Although this is not Ofqual rated, the purpose is to make beautiful music…which has a direct correlation with scoring highly in grade exams.
Interested in taking this further?
Helen has limited places available to those who are interested pursuing violin using the Suzuki Method.
A T1 Musicians' Union Contract will be issued, which outlines the Terms and Conditions of her studio.
By law, a 14-day cooling off period comes into effect on the day the contract is signed whereby any party may withdraw from the agreement. After those 14 days have been completed, the contract becomes legally binding.
